A spinach dish cooked with lentils eaten with steamed rice and rotis. Peanuts are added as special attraction in Telangana. It’s such a simple dish with delicious flavors.
INGREDIENTS
chana dal – 1 cup
toor dal – 1/2 cup
spinach – 1 bunch
peanuts – 1/2 cup
tamarind – gooseberry size
garlic – 6 pods
green chillies – 4 no
cumin seeds – 1 tsp
mustard seeds – 1 tsp
turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
oil- for tempering
salt – to taste
chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
curry leaves – 1 sprig
cilantro – 1 tbsp chopped
PROCEDURE
- In a pressure cooker add washed chana dal, moong dal, peanuts, spinach, garlic and 2 cups of water (Note: I added tamarind directly to cook with dals you can skip adding in here)
- Pressure cook for 5-6 whistles until dals are finely cooked
- In a mortal & pestle add in garlic pods and jeera and mash them to chunky mixture
- Heat a tempering pan add oil and once the oil is hot enough add in mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chilies, mashed cumin & garlic mix and saute until garlic turns golden brown
- Now add in turmeric powder, salt, chilli powder and saute for 30 sec and transfer this tempering to the cooked dal and place the pressure cook onto heat
- Now add in extracted pulp of tamarind and boil for 5 min
- Finally add in chopped cilantro and serve hot with rice/jonna rotte/roti’s
