Hello friends,
Thank you for visiting me. I’m Shravani and currently living in Seattle with my family. Being raised in a conservative south Indian family from Telangana, food isn’t just limited to cooking. There are many traditions, rituals and practices associated with it. When the festivities are nearby our home would start the preparations as earlier as needed. And as a girl you’ll made to be part of these rituals, with an intention that you’ll learn and follow these traditions, keep them alive and pass it to the next generation.
So how did I grow up to be passionate for cooking, our family conversations were always centered to the food stories, traditions and planning for next meal. I started cooking little things when I was 8, simple foods like dal, tea, etc. My mom being a food fanatic herself hasn’t limited herself to the regional food of Telangana. She also used to try foods from various regional cuisines of India. Like making stuffed parathas, chole poori, chaat etc.,. And she’s been my inspiration on this culinary journey.
I was a tough and picky eater in my childhood, literally one could count the no of dishes on their fingers I used to eat. But then came a time when my food habits changed drastically. I stayed in Hyderabad for 3 years after graduation and had to stay in Hostel. I had to eat every vegetable they serve, and including bottle gourd which I used to hate earlier. At this stage my love for homemade food has been increased by tenfold. Whenever I visit home on weekends, I used to have just spicy dal, rice and ghee. It would awake my taste buds and make my soul happy.
Post marriage in 2015 I moved to states and being at home I started cooking and experimenting things. My hubby always being very supportive, motivated me to start a blog. But I kept procrastinating it, until one day when I couldn’t find the regional dishes of Telangana. Finally I mustered the courage and embarked upon this journey of documenting my culinary heritage.
Besides cooking, I’m a big foodie and I like to eat thai food, chaats, south Indian tiffins, pastries and the list goes on… Now other than food, I like music, occasional singing, watching movies, shopping, spending time with my kiddo.
& here’s me
About MYCURRYVEDA
I have started this blog in 2017 with an intention of making this blog as a resource for the regional cuisine of Telangana. I wanted to dedicate this blog for documenting the native foods of Telangana region the tribal, rural and urban communal foods. Also sharing the part of my culinary heritage that I grew up with and watching my elders at home. Not just food, the culinary practices, festivals, rituals that are fading away with urbanization. Foods that are now commercialized as must-haves, superfoods, millets, whole grains, whole foods etc. have always been and continue to be an integral part of our food culture of Telangana.
Initially I’ve intended to document only the everyday dishes that are not much familiar to the people outside Telangana. The foods that I’ve grown up eating them, the food practices, rituals, culinary traditions and the festival offerings. I want to uncover the different elements, spices, practices that make up the food scene of Telangana and share the lost culinary treasures of the land.
Thank you for stopping by…
