Coconut flaxseed spice mix/Kobbari avisala kaaram podi. I came up with this spice mix when amma suggested me to intake more flax seeds for hair fall. This tastes heavenly with warm rice, cooked toor dal and ghee. Also can take it with dosas, idli’s and upma.
I have used desiccated coconut powder, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, hemp hearts to make this mix.. also we can add black sesame seeds, dried curry leaves, dried moringa leaves to improve the nutritional value.
- Heat a wide pan, once it’s hot dry roast the flax seeds up to 5 min on low to medium flame and transfer them to a plate to cool down.
- roast the cumin seeds until nice cumin’s aroma oozes out and transfer them to the plate.
- Now add a tsp of oil to the pan and fry the red chillies for up to 2 min and transfer them to the plate.
- Now add a tsp of oil and roast the chopped garlic till crisp until golden brown(make sure you’re not burning them).
- Let all the roasted spices cool down to the room temparature.
- Now transfer the roasted spices to a blending jar, add coconut powder, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, Salt and blend them to a fine powder(I like it bit coarsely, so just pulsed them couple of times)
- Transfer the spice mix to an airtight container and store it upto a month for maximum freshness.
- You can enjoy this spice mix with Idli’s, Dosa’s, Warm rice or Upma with just little of ghee to it 😍.
